Each chapter is composed of three parts: Biblical Exposition, Questions and Answers, and Sermons. The central message conveyed by this book is clear. Salvation is not accomplished by human goodness or merit. Through the baptism He received from John the Baptist, Jesus had all the sins of the world passed onto Him, bore the punishment for those sins in our place on the Cross, and rose from the dead and gave us eternal life. Whoever believes this gospel of the water and the Spirit receives the remission of all his sins at once and the Holy Spirit as a gift.

As you recite the Apostles’ Creed every week, have you ever asked whether its statements are consistent with the gospel of the water and the Spirit proclaimed in the Bible? Countless Christians recite the Apostles’ Creed, yet live without assurance as to whether they themselves have received the remission of sins and been born again.
This book examines this confession of faith, shaped and refined by people, article by article in the light of the “gospel of the water and the Spirit” to which Scripture testifies. In the light of this gospel—the gospel in which Jesus took upon Himself all the sins of the world by being baptized by John, bore the judgment for sin in our place by shedding His blood and dying on the Cross, and completed salvation by rising from the dead on the third day—this book points out what the Apostles’ Creed leaves out.

Why do the four Gospels introduce John the Baptist before speaking of Jesus’ public ministry? Matthew records the baptism by which He fulfilled all righteousness; Mark, the messenger who prepared the way; Luke, the birth into a priestly family; and John, the testimony of the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world. These four books of the Bible—the four Gospels—together shed light on the ministry of Jesus and the ministry of John the Baptist.

This book makes clear that we receive the remission of sins not by human zeal, but by believing in the gospel of the water and the Spirit. Just as sins were passed on to the sacrificial offering through the laying on of hands in the Old Testament, so Jesus took upon Him self the sin of the world through the baptism He received from John the Baptist, was judged and died on the Cross, and rose again to complete our salvation.

1 Kings Vol. 4

1 Kings chapters 18–22 show a faith that believes and follows the LORD alone as the true God and keeps the entrusted gospel to the very end.

God restored the weary Elijah, and He also enabled Israel’s small army to defeat the great Syrian forces. Elijah’s prophetic ministry was later carried forward by John the Baptist in the New Testament. By the baptism He received from John the Baptist, Jesus took the sins of the world upon Himself, died on the Cross, and by rising again completed salvation through the gospel of the water and the Spirit.
