The fire on Mount Carmel and the still small voice, Naboth’s vineyard and Micaiah’s cry—what do they say to us today?

1 Kings chapters 18–22 show a faith that believes and follows the LORD alone as the true God and keeps the entrusted gospel to the very end.

God restored the weary Elijah, and He also enabled Israel’s small army to defeat the great Syrian forces. Elijah’s prophetic ministry was later carried forward by John the Baptist in the New Testament. By the baptism He received from John the Baptist, Jesus took the sins of the world upon Himself, died on the Cross, and by rising again completed salvation through the gospel of the water and the Spirit.

Do not be afraid because your number is small. Do not make the church of God and the gospel your own personal possession, but like the prophet Micaiah, who preached the word of God even before four hundred prophets, boldly preach this gospel of life, the gospel of the water and the Spirit.
